New chairman and President elected at the club AGM

Outwood Cricket Club recently held its Annual General Meeting and supper, marking a transition in leadership. After eight years at the 'crease', Paul Howard stepped down as club chairman, with James Malley elected as his successor. Additionally, James Sherwin Smith was elected as a director to the board, and William Walton was elected as the new club president.

Paul’s tenure was a period of consistent progress for the club. One of his most notable achievements was guiding Outwood through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring the club was able to reopen as soon as regulations permitted, allowing players to return to the field safely. His leadership was instrumental in revitalizing the club Youth Academy. Under his direction, membership grew from just eight to over a hundred, reflecting the renewed enthusiasm and engagement within the community and the importance of the Academy for the future development of the OCC

During his time as chairman, Outwood Cricket Club experienced considerable on-field success. The club secured the Village League title three years in succession, triumphed in the Surrey Slam T20 Plate, and reached the South East Slam Plate final, showcasing the growing strength and competitiveness of the squad. The 2nd XI acheived two promotions in three years, narrowly missing out on promotion in the final game of the 2024 season.

Another development during Paul’s tenure was the establishment and growth of the women’s section. What started as a new initiative has flourished into a thriving part of the club, with over 24 active players in teams now competing in two summer leagues and one winter competition, demonstrating the expanding reach and inclusivity of Outwood Cricket Club.

Helen Hiscocks was appointed as a club Vice President, while Phil Ient and Patrick MacIntosh were made Honorary Life Members. Lyle Kercher has taken over as Academy Director after Neil Agate stepped down from the role.

There were no rule changes, and no adjustments to member subscription or match fees.

The AGM was followed by a well-attended supper, provided by club sponsor The Outwood Butcher, where members reflected on the past year’s achievements and looked forward to another exciting season ahead.

A raffle was held to raise funds for in-season developments, which will include new covers and improvements to showers and toilets. Special thanks to our sponsors included Outwood Butcher, Westerham Brewery, The Bell Inn, Woodcutter Logs, and other contributions from club members.
